Doom 3

id Software is Dooming us like we’ve never been Doomed before. Publisher Bethesda Softworks has announced the Doom 3 BFG Edition, which will feature the series’ entire catalog, including Doom, Doom 2, Doom 3, and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as an added “Lost Mission” with seven new levels. The release date and pricing are TBA, but it’s coming sometime this year.

In addition to new content, id has spent the past year addressing complaints about Doom 3′s darkness and difficulty (enter the new “armor-mounted flashlight”), tweaking its lighting and rendering, and adding 3D monitor and 5.1 surround sound support. Many of the modifications are bigger news for the console versions, as we’ve already been blessed with smooth framerates and the famous Duct Tape Mod.
“Doom 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said id Software’s John Carmack in today’s statement. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls.”
If id were working on it, this definitive Doom collection would be an excellent precursor to Doom 4, and Polygon‘s Russ Pitts made the same leading statement to id’s Tim Willits, who repeated back, “If one were working on that, it would be a perfect precursor.”
So, yeah, it seems likely that we’ll get a Doom 4 re-announcement sometime this year.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood

Ubisoft firmed up all the details on Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's PC release today. For starters, they revealed that the previously announced release date was wrong.
Brotherhood will hit the PC in North America on March 22nd. Ubisoft had previously stated it was coming on the 17th. The European release date - March 18th - is the same, though.
The $49.99 standard edition of the game will be available at both retail and through digital stores. It will include the main game as well as all the downloadable content: the Abstergo Project Update 1.0 and 2.0 multiplayer DLC as well as the "Da Vinci Disappearance" add-on announced last week. Iron Man 2 action game that was released in 2008 alongside the blockbuster film.

The game and film sequels are both scheduled for release in 2010 on multiple platforms. Iron Man 2 is currently under development at SEGA Studios San Francisco.

In a news release announcing the game SEGA said it has continued to refine its game engine so that players can expect an entirely new and enhanced gameplay experience.

The Iron Man film was both a critical and commercial success last year but the videogame tie-in developed by internal SEGA studio Secret Level didn't fare as well. The game was poorly received by critics garnering a score of 3.8 on IGN. The new game is being developed by the SEGA Studios San Francisco.

If Commando 3 needed much of a plot, it would tell the gripping story of the Jackals, an elite group of three soldiers whose job is apparently to destroy the living crap out of everything they see. Each soldier is ranked in the abilities of running speed, hit points, and the number of grenades they can carry, but the primary weapon loadout is identical for everyone. Starting off with a basic machine gun, they can switch to a spread shot, flamethrower, or rocket launcher as they find them in the field, and power-ups throughout the game will enhance the strength of any gun they carry. In practical terms there's only one gun worth having though, and that's the machine gun. Its rate of fire, damage, and range make the other weapons almost irrelevant, although the rocket launcher is particularly effective against bosses.

Kung Fu Panda intended mainly for children and is based on the movie Kung Fu Panda. Players initially control Po, who differs from the movie in that he possesses a basic level of martial arts skill from the beginning, enabling him to participate in battle. In addition to fighting and jumping challenges, maintaining balance is another important element of the game, such as Po crossing tightropes, staying on moving platforms and using it to steer a boat through a dangerous river. Over the course of the game's narrative, the player improves Po's skill by adding various new fighting techniques and special moves, although in some parts of the game, the player will have to complete the tasks as another character.
After collecting a number of coins at the end of each level, the player has the option to buy upgrades to Po's moves and health, as well as a different set of new outfits. Eventually, as the player progresses through the game, they'll be able to unlock other characters, including Master Shifu and the members of the Furious Five (a team of elite fighters each with their own fighting styles and mini-games). In addition, the player will be able to use objects and weapons when fighting. Furthermore, before each new level, Po narrates the continuing story, while the words are being scrolled up on the screen.
In the Wii version, the Wii Remote is used to perform moves and skills, such as the Wuxi Finger Hold; in the PS3 version, the motion sensors of the Sixaxis controller can be used to control Crane in missions, where players play as him, while in the Nintendo DS version, while the D-pad moves Po, the touch screen is mainly used for combat moves, in the style of the DS version of Spider-Man 3, which was also developed by Vicarious Visions.^[2]

Angry Birds Star Wars is an officially licensed Star Wars-themed game, which sees the famous birds meet characters from the movies, including Dath Vader, C3PO and R2D2.
It's a second trip into Space for the annoyed avians, following on the heals of Angry Birds Space. Angry Birds Star Wars retains some of the Space physics of the previous release, and there are new special abilities, including the use of the force, and light saber-wielding.
Presentation
Fans of the original movie, A New Hope, will adore Angry Birds Star Wars. It follows the plot of the film, taking you to all the iconic locations, including Tatooine, Hoth, and the Pig Star (modeled on the Death Star). The Angry Birds are themed around the heroes such as Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, while the piggies dress up as stormtroopers, tuskan raiders and the like.
The locations and characters are gloriously recreated, and this, coupled with music from the original score, makes Angry Birds Star Wars the best presented version of the game series so far.
Gameplay
The basic gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars is still the same as the original Angry Birds. You launch birds from a catapult at a structure in order to smash it and destroy the bad guys. Stars are earned based on how easily you achieve this, and progress to the next level.
There are some 80 levels in Angry Birds Star Wars and getting through them will take you a long time, even though the first few levels on Tatooine are very easy. There are some fun bonus levels too, in which you can play as C3PO or R2D2.
The gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars has been tweaked a bit from previous versions of the game. You can now use the force to slow down your bird in mid flight, or swipe your light saber to break objects, for example.
Verdict
Despite these interesting additional gameplay elements, there's no disguising that Angry Birds Star Wars plays very much the same as previous versions. While fans of the Angry Birds franchise will enjoy this, others will find the game repetitive, frustrating and tiresome.
